SHIDOKAN

(pronounced ‘She – Doe – Khan’)

Translated as “…The group that lives and trains in the way of the Samurai”.

Shidokan emphasizes three types of disciplines: Karate, Kick Boxing and Grappling, commonly referred to as the Original Mixed Martial Art (MMA).

An extremely effective form of self-defense for men and women, Shidokan classes at CFC have instructed multiple members of various law enforcement units, including:

  • Chicago Police Department Hostage Barricade and Terrorist Unit

  • Cook County Department of Corrections Special Operations Response Team

  • Cook County Homeland Security

  • CPD Crisis Negotiations Unit CPD High Risk Entry Team

  • CPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT)

Shidokan Karate

Traditional full contact Karate with emphasis on kihon (basics), kata (forms), and kumite (sparring). Students range from ages 5 to 60-plus and have trained and competed internationally. In the four decades since CFC’s inception, many of our advanced students have traveled to Japan for their Shodan (1st degree black belt).

Shido-Kids

CFC offers a great Shido-Kids “STOP THE BULLY” Program (Ages 5 to 13). 

This program has been in existence for forty years and have raised generations of young warriors. Class focuses on developing; Confidence, Endurance, Flexibility, Self-Discipline and Strength. 

Shido MMA

Learn MMA from top instructor Shihan Eddie, who brings decades of experience to the mat, ring and octagon. You will cover stand-up fighting techniques and combinations, takedown and escape transitions, submission, and, of course, ground and pound. Each class is a lesson unto itself. Come and see why new and experienced students, fighters and instructors from all over the world come to meet, teach and train at CFC.

Muay Thai Kickboxing

Join Sensei’s: Jeff, Jason and Miguel for an all-levels class in Muay Thai Kickboxing. From beginners all the way to those ready to compete, students learn the techniques and fundamentals of Muay Thai while getting a killer workout. The classes emphasize dynamic stretching, shadow boxing, pad work and bag work, and the conditioning needed to practice the art of eight limbs. Focusing on the fundamentals of Muay Thai, the classes may include shadow boxing, Dutch kickboxing drills, free drills, reaction drills and touch sparring. Sparring is optional and always done with protective equipment.

Women’s Self Defense

CFC offers a Women’s Self-Defense program that is recognized throughout the Chicagoland area. Our instructor, Shihan Eddie offers a unique realistic perspective based upon over thirty-three years in Law Enforcement and over fifty-five years in Martial Arts combined.
